MY NEW STUDIO!

My new studio! I still need to work out a few kinks, and hang those threads and sundries on the wall for more table space. I'd love a real sewing table, too. The work table is the best, although I need to expand/finish it. Right now it's a piece of plywood on top of our foosball table. I would like to put two plywoods, with recessed hinges, and maybe formica top? Anyway, it's a great hight, and great dimensions. I noticed that I'm not afraid to work bigger now.

Auditioning fabrics for Mt. Sinai and the tablets. Legend has it that Sinai was covered with flowers. Time for my first "broderie perse" or, for those of you who aren't quilters, it's when you cut flowers from fabric and make a collage.

The lighting in my studio is amazing. Well, maybe not amazing, but anything is amazing compared to the dark dreary place it used to be. Most of my work used to be done by my sewing machine light, which was do-able during the day, but at night became detrimental to my sight. Here, Leah is actually inspired to quilt! That was a rare moment, but she loved it!

Happy in my new studio. Check out the iron... where is it plugged? Yep, that's right! In the ceiling! That was inspired by pictures I saw in designer workrooms - they have the irons dangling from the ceiling and plugged there too, so I had the contractor put one outlet in there.

Sinai quilt with bias tape attached. At this point I think it would have looked better without it, but I started this project with the sole intention of finally trying bias tape! I'll make it work somehow. We'll have to get funky with some more black/darks in the border and throughout the mountain...

MISSED ME? Construction Blues

Oh how construction sucks the life right out of you.... I didn't realize how tired it made me until it was over. We finished the first and major phase of basement construction, and things look well, but I don't want to post pictures until at least my studio is organized. The most major of improvements is the lighting - I used to work in the dark. The area is finally clean and has the potential to be organized - I just have to take all of my stuff the contractor has been tossing around and sort through it for the next, oh, month or so. I have missed blogging, and of course quilting. Can you believe it's been over 2 months without any textile therapy? To top it off, I won't be able to organize or sew for another 2 weeks. I predict, after organizing and finishing the loose ends, I'll be obsessed for a while. In the meantime, the quilting blogs and magazines will have to suffice - but you all know, it's just not the same.
